Advanced Life Support – Part-time
Under general direction to perform skilled ALS patient care and other duties as assigned and scheduled. Reports directly to the Fire Chief. The ALS person is responsible for patient care up to their ACT’s allowed as defined by Mesa County Protocols, State of Colorado Statutes and Physician Advisor. ALS personnel may also participate in fire suppression activities if qualified and under direction of the responding Captain or Incident Commander.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (Not inclusive)
Respond to EMS and fire incidents.
Determines the best patient treatment methods.
Supports BLS personnel and promotes education and skill enhancement.
Participates in and ensures adequate re-stocking of EMS units.
Participates in daily pre-operational ambulance inspections.
Ensures ambulances are clean (interior/exterior).
Completes accurate and complete electronic patient care reports and related reports.
Directs personnel issues to the Fire Chief.
Works in unison with personnel.
Promotes team work within the district.
Performs related duties as required.
Provides positive example by participation of daily duties such as station clean-up and re-stocking.
Education: High School Diploma / GED. Current State Certified EMT- Intermediate or Paramedic. Current Mesa County Protocols. Current certification in BCLS, ACLS, PALS or Equivalent. Prefer structural certification and wild land certification for firefighter.
EXPERIENCE: Previous experience one year working as a released ALS provider with ambulance transport. Currently released as a Mesa County ALS provider from the physician advisor. Prefer firefighter experience.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, AND SKILLS: Knowledge of the Mesa County EMS system. Patient care procedures. Ability to make decisions with little to no direction based upon Mesa County Protocols and best medical practices within ACTS allowed. Basic knowledge of the rules and regulations of the Fire District, State Laws, Mesa County Protocols, and national standards related to emergency services. The operation of specific medical devices, computers and communication devices. Be able to complete accurate electronic patient care reports and data.
Ability to: Have effective working relationships. Lead BLS personnel, promote harmony, exercise sound judgment and cooperate with others under stressful situations. Prepare clear and concise reports. Enhance operational relationships with other agencies.
Possession of a valid Colorado Drivers License. Loss of the License is cause for discipline, up to and including termination. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to physical disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Licenses and Certifications:
Current State of Colorado ALS Certification (EMT-I or EMT-P). Current BCLS, ACLS, PALS or equivalent. Current Mesa County Protocols.
Residency Requirement: None
Respiratory Protective Equipment: Work in this classification may require wearing respiratory protection equipment at times. When assigned to such work, facial hair must be shaven with it interferes with safe fitting of respiratory protective equipment.
